FAQ

What is therapy?

Psychological therapy consists of a collaborative process of developing insight and addressing psychological challenges through the process of talking. These conversations are semi-structured and are ideally approached from a non-judgemental perspective so that an individual may be able to freely reflect on and identify their history and experiences before beginning to address their issues. Therapy may also consist of some diagnosis and assessment in order to understand various mental health conditions and will often involve learning about technical aspects of cognitive processes, trauma, and social influences on mental health.

Is telehealth based therapy for me?

The telehealth format allows you to connect with psychological services through phone or video, which makes therapy more flexible and less intrusive to your daily life. Telehealth also allows to you to access therapy at a time convenient to you and from a location in which you are most comfortable, such as your home or workplace. Telehealth increases accessibility to mental health services regardless of your physical location. Jerome also has extensive experience providing therapy via telehealth (phone and video). If the aforementioned factors are important considerations, telehealth may be suitable for you. The comparison between the telehealth and face to face therapy can be found in this article on the APS website.

What should I expect at my first appointment?

Your first session with Jerome will be an intake where Jerome will get to know you by exploring the influence of various domains of your life on your current mental health. You can expect to discuss several issues including how childhood and past experiences may be associated with your current mental health challenges. You can also utilise this opportunity to establish whether Jerome is a good fit for you and whether you are able to be comfortable in establishing a therapeutic relationship with Jerome. This might also be a good opportunity to establish any specific or broad goals you wish to address through therapy.

How long is my appointment?

Your appointment will be for 50 minutes to one hour as prescribed by Medicare billing schedule.
